GRR unable to init video device, exiting on startup

Just saying ( from the pub ) as soon as I will be cleared from the festive things I will try maybe the route of "special build with extra debug".

It is quite strange because SG and GRR does not have a very much different video initialisation so this is very curious.

Sounds good, please let me know. I'd be willing to give a debug version a go, for sure. I really fret having to change any resolution or disable a monitor at this stage, as it's been a bear to get things set up "just right", if you know what I mean.. But if it is indeed necessary, then for SCIENCE!, I shall trek on through the night and face the possible ugliness of having to deal with resolution, window and icon placement.. for SCIENCE!, indeed.

Yes I know what you mean, I am too one in the search of "the perfect configuration" and "once I have it I don't want to touch it"

This situation is puzzling and interesting, puzzling because SG works and as I said this should be working too then cause the logic they have is very similar.

Only more "debug print" would allow us to better understanding what's going on.

In a way or another we'll get a point you'll have GRR working.

Besides if you'd be interested ( when it will be ready ) for a beta-test phase of Minotaur Rescue PC version let me know.

But it's not ready yet.

Hi, I have a problem starting up gridrunner(revolution)
Just purchased on Direct2Drive.

Space Giraffe activated and running ( i purchased the pack)
Gridrunner exits immediately, no window opens therefore unactivated?

I am no techie but I have followed other suggestions for a fix.

So far I have,
1. deselected SRS sound effects
2. reduced my screen resolution size
3. tried compatibility mode
4. disabled windows effects (aero)
5. tried running exe with options -0,1,2,3

What seems strange is that last month i played the demo version and it ran without problems.
I enjoyed the game and decided to pay extra for space giraffe.

Hi Jones_Andy,

let's do an experiment ..

Email me gilesgoat@llamasoft.co.uk your data ( name, second name, email ) I will generate two regcodes for you, one for GRR and one for SG.

Uninstall and remove COMPLETELY all the GRR and SG setup you got from D2D, tell it to remove the profiles too ( but note if you have some hiscores or such saved this will destroy them all, in case you want to save the profiles first let me know I'll let you know where they are and how to copy them somewhere else - they are just two small files ).

Download SG and GRR from our links in the LS website.

Install them and see if it works, just the demo version and let's see if they both work.

If they do then we can try to register them and see what happens.

If they worked once, there should be no reason at all they won't work twice.

Unless maybe meanwhile you changed something I don't know in your PC configuration and/or D2D done something 'weird' in that package.

[edit] - Almost forgot, there's another small thing you could do before to uninstall all.

In the folder(s) where you installed SG and GRR there is a text file ( is a plain text file ) called SpaceGiraffePCLogFile.txt and GRpppPCLogFile.txt, send me that too and/or cut and paste it here, it shoud show something about where/why the program stops.

Having the exact same problem as Jones_Andy. I bought GRR on D2D last night and the game just doesn't seem to want to start at all. I get the same result on a Vista (32x) desktop and 2 laptops running XP.

I remember there being something wonky about the demo version at first, too; but eventually it worked just fine (and it still does.)

edit: After a little back and forth with D2D's support staff, they changed the download link to an older version (1.17C I think) and the game works fine now.
